June 25, 2020

We are excited to announce that the caucus recently created Antiracism Learning Community of the API Caucus for our members to have a safe place to share their experiences, learn from and support each other and take actions to make changes in this profession and in the communities. We are working on developing and sustaining an allyship with our Black colleagues and the Black community. Please email hsinhuei.chiou@mnsu.edu if you would like to join this wonderful community.

Meet & Greet with API Board Members

May 23, 2020

The Asian Pacific Islander Speech-Language-Hearing (APISLH) Caucus is excited to announce a virtual Zoom meeting from 4-5pm (PST) on June 11, 2020.   We would like to invite you to join us! Our meeting theme is “meet & greet”.  The caucus board members will host the meeting and facilitate conversation. In this meeting, we hope that our members will

  • make new friends and catch up with old friends
  • ask questions and offer ideas
  • learn about current caucus tasks and be involved in the caucus

If you plan to join us, please register here. We will send you a zoom link prior to the meeting. This is our first virtual meeting. We plan to have a monthly virtual meeting and are looking forward to meeting you!

Check Us Out on Social Media!

January 1, 2020

We are exploring ways to reach out and serve our diverse communities (e.g., East Asia, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands). We would like to promote mentorship this year. This is our plan. We will create a monthly mentorship post on Facebook and Instagram first week of the month and would like to invite you to participate with us. We will ask a question or post a common issue raised by API members and encourage everyone to chime in and offer their thoughts.

Check Out This Featured Article on Speech Therapy in Cambodia

December 29, 2019

The article, entitled “Speech Therapy in Cambodia: From the Ground Up!” describes the origins and work of our two organizations, noting: “Speech Therapy Cambodia (STC) … and OIC Cambodia arrived in Phnom Penh at the same time and with remarkable similar missions: to train Cambodians to support people with communication and swallowing difficulties and to create a comprehensive university program to educate Cambodian-born SLPs [Speech-Language Pathologists].”…As the CSHA article points out: “By training Cambodian dysphagia clinicians to a high level of competency and by demonstrating the importance of this life-saving work, we [at STC] can help patients now while working toward the ultimate goal of a degree program for Cambodian SLPs.” Congratulations to STC!
