Asian Pacific Islander Speech-Language-Hearing Caucus

Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure‐track Assistant/Associate position in speech-language pathology with an appointment to begin in Fall 2026.

Position

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders provides instructional expertise from culturally and linguistically diverse faculty members in both clinical and academic curricula. We foster an inclusive environment in which students, staff, administrators, and faculty thrive. We strive to ensure all undergraduate and graduate students are developed with the tools and strategies they need to participate in meaningful and challenging learning opportunities, both during their academic programs and throughout their professional careers.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  1. teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology in their expertise area(s);
  2. engaging in a systematic program of scholarly research;
  3. actively participating in faculty governance that includes engaging in activities that support an equitable and inclusive environment for colleagues and students;
  4. serving on department, college, and university committees;
  5. developing and improving instructional curriculum; and
  6. providing academic advisement to students.

Specific courses that the successful candidate will be expected to teach include one or two of the following:

  • COMD 577, Seminar in Child Language Disorders;
  • COMD 564, Autism Spectrum Disorder in Speech-Language Pathology;
  • COMD 576, Seminar in Augmentative and Alternative Communication; and
  • COMD 590, Seminar: Speech and Hearing Services in Schools.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in communication sciences and disorders or related field with an emphasis in developmental language disorders. Strong candidates in other areas of related expertise will be considered. ABDs will be considered but must have a doctorate completed before the appointment date.
  • Earned or are eligible/expecting to receive ASHA CCC-SLP.
  • Eligibility for immediate California licensure in speech-language pathology.
  • Knowledge/experience needed to teach courses such as developmental language disorders, autism, AAC, or speech/hearing services in schools
  • Evidence of strong potential for research leading to the scholarly publications necessary for tenure.
  • For associate rank, appointments to Associate Professor requires a record consistent with promotion to Associate Professor in the department personnel guidelines, such as evidence of an established record of teaching and peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of publication-ready manuscripts
  • Evidence of strong potential for teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of balancing excellent teaching, scholarship, and service
  • Experience of interacting successfully in an inclusive environment
  • Indicators of commitment to culturally/linguistically diverse students including first-generation college students
  • Collaboration experience with students, colleagues, or local community members

    • Finalists must submit three letters of recommendation. Please have these ready for the referents to submit. On the References page of the online application, enter information and email addresses for three referents who will provide a confidential letter of reference for your application. At the appropriate time in the search process, they will receive a request via email along with information on uploading the letter. You can verify that CSUF has received each letter by logging back into your applicant portal.
    • Finalists will be asked to have each of their three referents submit a letter of recommendation. Please have these ready for the referents to offer should you proceed to this search phase.
      Semifinalists and/or finalists may be asked to submit additional materials for further consideration (e.g., scholarly articles, portfolio, etc.).
  • Graduate Transcripts (unofficial copies are sufficient for initial review)

Application Deadline

To be assured full consideration, all application materials must be received by October 31, 2025, and review of applications will begin on October 31, 2025. However, applications received after the deadline will be considered until the position has been filled. The anticipated appointment date is August 2026.
