Job Title: Assistant Professor, Communication Sciences & Disorders

Position Description

This tenure-track position requires teaching Communication Sciences and Disorders courses in areas of interest and expertise, as well as providing clinical education to students in the on-campus Speech and Hearing Center, if a CCC is held beyond the initial professional year. The teaching load will include graduate and undergraduate courses that incorporate clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice and could include areas such as Language and Literacy, Neurogenic, Dysphagia, Motor Speech Disorders, Social/Cognitive Aspects of Communication, Multiculturalism, and/or Audiology.

Further responsibilities also include research/scholarship and service to the department and university. The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program provides an academic and clinical professional education for students whose primary goal is to serve children and adults who have impairments of communication and swallowing.

Our undergraduate program has a proud history of preparing students for graduate programs in SLP and audiology. Our graduate program has been successful at preparing qualified speech-language pathologists. The School of Education, Health and Human Services prepares students for successful entry into their profession. We focus on an ethical approach to human well-being and encourage critical thinking and practical application.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in speech-language pathology or audiology. ABDs will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant’s defense of their dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment. A successful ABD applicant will receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following the award of the terminal degree. An ABD will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum).
  • An Audiologist would need to have or be eligible for NYS licensure. If unlicensed at the time of appointment, an Audiologist would be required to submit their application for NYS licensure within the first semester.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to anti-oppressive practice, diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Active program of research or focused research area of interest
  • Eligibility for New York State licensure in Speech-Language Pathology

Salary: $69,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits
