Position Description
The University of South Florida (USF) Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is seeking two (2) nine-month Assistant Professors of Instruction of Speech-Language Pathology: two (2) non-tenure track with a preferred start date in January 2024 but a possible start in August 2024.These positions address undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from adult neurologic disorders, child language and literacy, and speech science and phonology, using both in-person and online delivery. These positions may grow into some clinical supervision if desired. On-campus courses will be delivered primarily on the Sarasota campus. These persons will engage in service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Position(s): Assistant Professor of Instruction 9-month (2) non-tenure track
The candidate(s) will work collaboratively with CSD faculty in an innovative, clinically rich, partnership-based Speech-Language Pathology preparation program. Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses primarily on the Sarasota-Manatee campus. The position effective date is January 2024 for two (non-tenure) Academic Instructor lines. These are two identical position openings and candidates are encouraged to apply to both.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned PhD or Ed.D. in Speech-Language Pathology or related field by January 2023
- Evidence of clinical or teaching experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching speech-language pathology students within a university setting
- Expertise in child language and literacy or adult neurogenic disorders or speech science and phonology
- Experience in speech-language pathology clinical services (i.e., supervising speech-language pathology students)
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, interdisciplinary inquiry, school-university partnerships, community engagement, and/or global impact
- Experience with diverse student populations (e.g., socio-economic, racial, linguistic, geographic (urban/rural), exceptional students)
- Experience with the integration of technology and/or online instruction

About the Department and College
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is well-positioned within the University to continue its positive trajectory. CSD is housed within the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences (CBCS). CBCS is a research-intensive college committed to community-based work derived from evidenced-based practices. CSD faculty include speech-language pathologists, audiologists, sign-language interpreters, scholars of Deaf culture, linguists, hearing scientists, speech scientists and psychologists. The department considers communication issues from both humanistic and medical perspectives, providing multidisciplinary perspectives on issues such as language, literacy, hearing, and speech. To do this, CSD collaborates across USF with entities such as USF Health and Biomedical Engineering.
CSD’s efforts are multifaceted. It houses multiple undergraduate and graduate programs including Bachelors in Language Speech and Hearing Science and Interpreting, M.S. in Speech-language Pathology, AU.D., Ph.D. and combined AU.D./Ph.D degree programs. Speech and Hearing Clinics provide evidence-based interventions in a context that trains students for cutting-edge clinical work in a variety of settings. Notably, the department is also home to an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter training program, an ASL interpreter referral agency, and the Bolesta Center which provides listening and spoken language support to individuals with hearing loss across the lifespan. These positions will oversee growth in the Sarasota campus.
